Workin' for the Weekend.

TGIF!!!! Ugh. I'm so glad it's Friday. Today has been brutal at work. I've been busy and making lots of money and booking lots of contracts, but all of these people wait to call me until Friday. It never fails, it happens every week. I do 75% of my business between 2 and 5 on Fridays. It's like, hellooooooo, do you know there are 4 other days to the work week?

I do have a few minutes to do a quick HIGH FIVE FOR FRIDAY!!! woo WOO!

1. I love new hair dos. I love getting my hair cut and colored and styled etc. I usually dye my hair about 2-3 times a year. I don't just touch it up, I usually change it fairly drastically. This week I dyed my hair and I love it! It's kind of a chestnutty brown with a hint of copper. It makes me look a little less pale than usual.

Sorry not sorry. I couldn't get the picture to rotate. Deal with it.
2. We don't have anything planned this weekend. I'm looking forward to having a weekend to relax and catch up on a little cleaning and Netflix watching.

3. One of my best friends, Mallory, is going to be in town for a short time this weekend and we're meeting up for lunch on Sunday at our favorite Mexican restaurant. I can't wait for the food and to see her! She's in the middle of planning a wedding so I can't wait to hear all about it.

4. Is there anything cuter than a sleeping puppy? Morgan is usually a very light sleeper. She went to the groomer yesterday and must have had a rough day. She came home and crashed. Normally she doesn't stay asleep long enough for me to take a picture of it, so I was surprised when I got a few of them!
Also wouldn't rotate. Sorry not sorry.
5. I kicked ass at work this week. It started off a little rough, but by the end of it I signed a ton of contracts and made a ton of contacts. Have I mentioned how much I love my job!

Have a great weekend everyone! Hope it's as relaxing as mine will be!

It's been a hard days night...

... and I've been working like a dog.

Jeesh! Where has this week gone?! We've been super busy this week and work and I love it! I've told ya'll about how awesome my job is right? Well it's super awesome! This week, we are hosting the St. Bernard Club of America.

There are St. Bernards everywhere! It's a nice little distraction from everything at work. Even though the hotel is going to need some major deep cleaning after they leave this weekend!

I have never really seen a St. Bernard in person before. I don't know if any of you have... but they are HUGE! They could eat Morgan as a snack! I met a 15 week old puppy yesterday that was the size of a lab! There are quite a few younger puppies roaming around and we got to play with them for a bit the other day. Let me tell ya, if they could stay a puppy size forever, I would get a St. Bernard!

For real?! How cute are these pups! They're 8 weeks old and the size of Morgi.
Then there are the big dogs. We met one who is quite famous and comes with his own security dog. He has won in quite a few categories this week. These people take their dog shows seriously! This dog, Walter (which BTW love the name), even has his own Instagram! Seriously, go follow him @walterstbernard. I'm thinking about making an Instagram for Morgi the Corgi. Thoughts?

Walter! Such a big friendly guy!

What is going on this week is like what you see on TV. Like the dog show on TV on Thanksgiving. People in terrible, stuffy suits trot these dogs around in a ring and then a judge makes sure their coat is nice and they have good muscles and they're not fat, etc. It's been pretty amazing to watch the whole thing. My favorite is to see them all trot around the ring and just seeing dogs everywhere. The best part is that all these events are free and open to the public and we've gotten some pretty good publicity out of it.

We've done a few dog shows in the past and it really brings a lot of money into the property. We'd like to do more in the future, probably not St. Bernards again though, they're a little too big and messy! My boss told me if I could get a Corgi dog show here she would give me $100 bucks cash on top of all the commission I would make on it. Cross your fingers that I can get them!

I hope your guys' week is flying by as fast as mine is! I'm looking forward to a weekend of doing nothing! We have absolutely nothing planned!

There is no Place like Nebraska...

For your Listening Pleasure :)

My week was filled with quite a bit of Husker Football! Go Big Red! To start the week off, there was a conference going on at my workplace for the Nebraska Recreation and Parks Association. There were some speakers and some vendors set up in part of our ballroom. There was a booth set up for Crouch Recreation. As in Eric Crouch. As in 2001 Heisman Trophy Winner. THE Eric Crouch. Now, his NFL career was pretty much non-existent and he did a brief stint playing arena football in Omaha, but he is still a Husker and still a Heisman Trophy Winner. One of my coworkers got a chance to talk to him and she said he was very friendly and even gave her an autograph.
Eric Crouch's Heisman Trophy
The next day, Eric (boyfriend, not Crouch) texted me and told me he bought us tickets for the Husker game this weekend. I was pumped! I had never been to a game before and let me tell you, I AM HOOKED! I need to buy season tickets, like now. I was looking forward to it all week. I kept checking the weather religiously because I really wanted it to be nice for the game. All through the week the forecast said 75 degrees and sunny for Lincoln. It ended up being a LOT hotter! We both got very sunburned. But it was still an awesome day for football!

If you've never been to Memorial Stadium you're missing out!
Memorial Stadium/Lincoln on game day is one of those things that almost seems unreal. The only thing I can compare it to is Wrigley Field. They're both so amazing and you're just in awe of them.

We left home pretty early because we wanted to eat lunch at one of our favorite bars and do a little drinking before the game. We also wandered around downtown Lincoln for a bit and visited a few shops along the way to the stadium. We walked all around the outside of the stadium and went in where they have the weight room, the National Championship trophies and the three Heisman Trophies. By that time we were ready to actually go into the stadium and as we're entering our gate who walks by? None other than Tom Osborne himself! If you don't know who Tom Osborne is.... Google him. It's ok... I'll wait........................... There is a reason the field is named Tom Osborne Field.
It's Beautiful.

It was an amazing day. The Huskers won 58-20. We had awesome seats. We got to see a lot of touchdowns. We had a blast! I even think I got into the game a little more than Eric did!

Sorry It's Blurry! I was excited!
It's tradition for everyone to release balloons after the first touchdown. It was so cool to see!

The Pride of All Nebraska - The Cornhusker Marching Band!
We were lucky enough to get a Billy Joel halftime show! It was awesome!

Seriously, how cool is Memorial Stadium?!
On game days, Memorial Stadium is actually considered the 3rd largest city in Nebraska behind Omaha and Lincoln. The attendance for the game on Saturday was 90,641. Also, the Huskers hold the NCAA record for the most consecutive sellouts with 329 consecutive sold out games. That's pretty impressive.

A Sea of Red

There were actually a lot of South Dakota State Fans there, but compared to the Sea of Red they were few are far between.

Thank you random stranger for taking an AWESOME picture of us!

I did learn one thing this weekend. I will never wear a Cheek Cheer again without putting sunscreen on first. I have a nice "N" tan line on my cheek! Also found out, people from Denison may be the only people on Earth who call them Cheek Cheers. Who knew?!

I hope ya'll had an awesome weekend as well!

It's Friday, Friday Gotta Get Down on Friday!

Now that that song is stuck in your head it's time to High Five For Friday!!!

There are a lot of things about my job that are pretty awesome, so most of this list will consist of things of the work nature, but my job is cool, so whatevs.

  1. We often times get some interesting characters that stay at our hotel. Some this week were reenacting the signing of the Declaration of Independence. So we had the likes of Benjamin Franklin and Thomas Jefferson, etc. They were dressed in full colonial garb for about 3 days. All I could think about was in Bridesmaids when they're on the airplane.
  2. We also hold quite a few dog shows in our conference center. It's a pretty common occurrence. This week we are hosting the St. Bernard Club of America. That means there will be St. Bernards everywhere. Beethoven dogs everywhere. We've had a couple check in already and they are cute/huge.
  3. Another cool part about my job is that some days, I just get to drive around and make sales calls. I get to sit in a car by myself and listen to the radio and schmooze people all day. It's so great to be away from the office and just get to jam out to music all day.
  4. Eric bought us a new vacuum this week. It's one specially made for pet hair. We all now MorgDog sheds a literal crap load. I think our carpets are cleaner now than when we moved in. Eric is so proud of this new vacuum. He's vacuumed three times this week already. I'm not complaining.
  5. We're going to the Husker game tomorrow!!! The weather is going to be gorgeous and hopefully the game is gorgeous also. We're going to have lunch at our favorite bar before the game and then walk over to the stadium. I'm so excited. GO BIG RED!!!
I hope ya'll have a great weekend!

Dancing Queen

I don't know if you guys know this, but I love Dancing with the Stars. I've been watching it for a long time and let me tell you, I'm so excited for this season! I feel like there are actually some relevant "stars" on this season.
  • Snookie
  • Brant Daugherty (Pretty Little Liars)
  • Jack Osbourne
  • Corbin Bleu (High School Musical)
  • Bill Engvall (Blue Collar Comedy Tour)
  • Keyshawn Johnson (Football Player & ESPN Analyst)
  • Leah Remini (King of Queens)
  • Christina Milian
  • Valerie Harper (Mary Tyler Moore Show)
  • Amber Riley (Glee)
  • Elizabeth Berkley (Saved by the Bell/Showgirls)
and last but not least.....
  • Bill Nye the Science Guy.
Yes, you read that correctly. Bill Nye. The. Freaking. Science. Guy.

I had a few favorites before the season started. Amber Riley, Elizabeth Berkley and Corbin Bleu. None of them disapointed in the season premier. Leah Remini showed some promise as well as Bill Engvall. Snooki was also pretty good, and I hate myself for saying that. Brant Daugherty was good as well. And it doesn't help that he's kind of a babe.

And then there's Bill Nye. He's a little bit on the creepy side, and he's not a very good dancer... yet. He definitely has some improvements to make and I think he'll stick around for a few weeks because he has quite the fan base. However, he already made one crack at having sexual tension with his partner. So.... there's that.
I'm proud to say that Eric even watched with me for a bit tonight. I think he mainly watched for Leah Remini aka Carrie Heffernan. He loves her. (I told him we need to go as Doug and Carrie for Halloween.) So after she danced, he decided he was going to go watch football in the bedroom and what do I hear 5 minutes later? Dancing with the Stars echoing from the bedroom. He just doesn't want to admit that he likes it.

Amber and Derek got the highest score with 27 while Bill Nye and Tyne were the lowest score this week with 14. Everyone was pretty even throughout.

Every year I try to pick who I think the 3 finalists will be and I usually get pretty close. (I'm still butthurt that Shawn Johnson lost the All Star season.) But I think the finalists for this season will be Amber Riley, Corbin Bleu and Christina Milian. What do you guys think? I really want Bill Engvall to last a few weeks just because I think he's hilarious. And let's be honest, who doesn't want to see Bill Nye the Science guy stick around for awhile? Like Eric said tonight, "He's already conquered science, all that's left to do is conquer dance."

I Wear my Sunglasses at Night...

....and in the morning, and afternoon, and evening.

I have what you would call a sunglasses addiction. I own easily 20 pairs of sunglasses. I need to go to Sunglass Addicts Anonymous. It is very hard for me to go shopping and NOT buy a pair. It's definitely necessary to have so many pairs. You never know when you're going to need them.

Hypothetically, what if I had seven other people in my car and none of them brought their own sunglasses. Lucky for them, I have eight pairs in my glove box. Because, you never know.

Exhibit A:
Proof of the 8 pairs in my car.

If you're looking for a gift for me... why not buy me sunglasses?! Easy solution to buying me a gift!

Exhibit B:
Kickass Birthday Gift from Eric's Mom. #spoiled

Sometimes if one of my friends has a pair that I really like, I just steal them.

Exhibit C:
Stole these beauties from my friend Jared.
Sometimes your blogging friends give them away in a giveaway on their blog!

Exhibit D:
Desiree @ Macke Monologues
Desiree over at Macke Monologues is giving away a pair of sweet shades from Society 43 for her big 3-0! If I win her giveaway, rest assured I will not be choosing these Iowa State ones. (Sorry not Sorry. GBR!)

So ya'll should go check out Desiree and Society 43 on their Facebook page and you might just win your own pair to start your own sunglasses collection!

You're gonna hear me ROAR!

I apologize for being away from the blogging world all week. I don't really have an excuse. I wasn't busy AT ALL at work this week so I had plenty of time, I just didn't blog at all. I guess I just didn't have anything exciting enough going on to blog about. But none the less, I am back.

So awhile ago, Eric and I decided that since I don't have any vacation time to use since I just started my job that instead of going on a vacation, we were just going to go to a ton of concerts spread out over a few months. We've gone to about 5 or 6 concerts since the beginning of the summer. Someday I'll give you guys some reviews of all the concerts we went to.

We finished up the summer with one last concert this weekend. We also decided to make this weekend into a little mini vacation. We got a hotel room for after the concert on Friday and spent Saturday at the zoo! I apologize for this picture heavy post, but I love the zoo! It took some convincing to get Eric to skip watching the Husker game ( :( they lost) to go with me. I'm sorry if you've never been to the Henry Doorly Zoo in Omaha, but it's THE BEST! I highly suggest you go if you're ever in the area.

Now I've been to the San Diego Zoo, which is pretty cool but in my opinion it doesn't even compare to the Henry Doorly Zoo. Exhibit A: The Scott Aquarium. Pictures don't even do this place justice. There's sharks, sea turtles, an octopus, jellyfish, so many colorful different kinds and fish, and an addition since the last time I was at the zoo, giant crabs. We're talking Deadliest Catch type crabs. (We actually went and ate at Joe's Crab Shack after this.)

Clockwise: Crab legs anyone? Awesome Jellyfish. More Awesome Jellyfish. Coral Reef. Can you tell I like Jellyfish?

I just love all the different animals at the Zoo, especially the giraffes. We actually took the Skyfari across the zoo, which is a ski lift that goes over some of the animals exhibits and we went right over the giraffes. It was cool.
Clockwise: Workin' the camera. Such pretty colors! HUGE Butterfly! My favorite pink flamingos were snoozin!

I always tell Eric that we don't have near enough photos of us, so we made sure to take plenty! Sorry not sorry for my crappy cell phone pics, I'm not going to lug around a nice camera. Also, I can't even count the number of people that were carrying around iPads and taking pictures with them. I feel like if you're going for portability of a camera, an iPad is not a good choice.
Left: I just love Giraffes! Center: Top: Welcome to the Jungle! Center: Milk that cow! Bottom: More Giraffes. Right: King of the Jungle.

Now here is where I tell you a little bit about my weird family. Whenever we would go to places like the Zoo and Amusement parks when we were little, our parents didn't like to buy us souvenirs because most the time we would lose them or they would get thrown away a couple years later. So when we would go somewhere, Momma Deb would have us pick out a souvenir and she would take our picture with it. I have no idea where any of these pictures from our childhood went. Mom probably still hasn't developed the roll of film they were on yet. But we have continued this tradition into our adult years. My brother and sister in law recently visited us and we went to the public museum here in town and all picked out souvenirs. I picked out Lewis and Clark dolls. Lewis and Clark and the Corps of Discovery is a big deal in the Siouxland area. It is after all where Sgt. Floyd died of appendicitis. We even have a monument for him.

So of course I had to tell Eric about this little tradition and he was nice enough to go along with it.
I'm not sure why I picked the creepiest souvenir. Eric at least picked a good one.

We had a perfect day to go to the zoo. The weather was AWESOME! We couldn't have asked for better weather. Sunny and 75 all day!
I'll leave you all with a picture of this little guy :)

Snoozin' Sea Horse!

*Insert Morningside College Fight Song Here*

I hope everyone had a great weekend!
Ours consisted of A LOT of football. As you guys know, we're big Husker fans in our household. So of course our day was going to consist of watching the Husker game.

It also consisted of lounging around and taking a nap for a few hours up until kickoff. We're still getting over whatever sickness it was that plagued us last week so we definitely worked on getting some rest.

I did run into a problem though. It was my Alma Mater's first game of the season on Saturday and I simply just didn't know what to wear. Did I support the Huskers? or the Mustangs?

Go Big Red!
Hang out with your 'Stang out!
Well, thanks to an outfit change midway through the day, I did both!

So we spent the early evening lounging in front of the TV watching the Husker game. (They won in case you were wondering!) It was a good game and I made an awesome dinner of a copycat recipe for PF Chang's Mongolian Beef. Check out the recipe here! Eric was really impressed with it. He really underestimates my cooking skills.

We really wanted to go to Lincoln for the Husker game, but we just couldn't bring ourselves to drive over two hours for a game that was going to be a blow out.  But after the Huskers had a very comfortable lead, we decided to pack up and head to the Morningside game. That's one of the benefits of still living in the town where I went to college. Also, Morningside is a very small NAIA school, so it was no big deal for us to go to the game. Our tickets were $6 each vs. the $56 we would have paid to go to the Husker game.

Also, the Mustangs are veeerrrryyy good. They were Runners Up in the National Championship game last year. It was such a heartbreaking game. They lost in overtime by a field goal. Eric and I went to a local bar last year to watch the game on TV and I think that was when he found out what a crazy alumni I was. I hope they have the same success this year. I plan on dragging Eric to a lot of the games!

And no surprise, Morningside won. 56-28.

So all in all, we had a pretty awesome weekend. Both our teams won, we had awesome food, and caught up on some rest and relaxation. I hope you all had an awesome weekend too!

Also, here is your fun fact for the day. Morningside does not actually have a fight song. Yeah, they have a song the the band plays when they score, everyone stands and claps along, but there are no words to this song. Words do not exist. No one knows them.

Down with the Sickness: Part 2

Well, we are still sick. Eric came home early from work the other day… with Strep Throat.

Me being the hypochondriac that I am, I instantly had a sore throat. (I don’t really have one.) But I wanted to go to the Dr. just in case.  So yesterday I left work for a bit and went to the CuraQuick clinic at our Hy Vee store here. Let me tell ya, that is the way to go. I didn’t have to wait in a dirty waiting room with other sick people. I got in and got out on my merry way… without Strep Throat.

I don’t know if you guys have ever had a strep throat test, but it was TERRIBLE! They stick a long q-tip down into your throat and gag you. It’s gross. At first when the nurse lady tried to do it, I wasn’t prepared for what she was going to do and I flinched really hard. Then she kind of just jammed the thing into the back of my throat. We waited for the test to pop up positive, and it didn’t.  So, no strep throat for me. She wrote me a prescription just in case I develop it sometime in the next week, which I’m sure will happen.

I also just want to update you all on our little celebrity, Morgan. As you guys read, we took her to the Pooch Paddle the other day. If you didn't read about it, click here!

Well, Morgan ended up on the front page of the Sioux City Journal! She's such a star.
She just looks terrified.
Also, a quick High 5 for Friday:
  1. Reasons I love my job: You haven't lived until you've heard a Hotel Lobby Muzak version of Hootie and the Blow Fish's I Only Wanna Be With You.
  2. First Morningside Football game tomorrow! Go Mustangs!
  3. Also, another Husker game tomorrow! Hopefully they play better than they did last weekend! GBR!
  4. We have absolutely nothing planned at all for this weekend. Nothing. Not a thing. There will be a lot of couch laying and a lot of Netflix watching.
  5. I can't think of a 5th thing. So Fuck yeah! It's Friday!

Down with the Sickness

We are still sick. Ugh. Eric has it worse than I do. Double ugh. I'm hoping I don't end up with what he has. I've been sanitizing everything.

On a brighter note, at the end of the summer, the pools that Eric is in charge of puts on a Pooch Paddle. They open the pool up to dogs before they drain them for the year. Tonight was the night for small dogs, and tomorrow for big dogs. We took Morgan tonight. She loves getting sprayed with the hose, but haaaates baths with a passion. The second she hears anyone turn the shower on, she bolts for her bed. So it was a toss up of how she was going to take it.

Let's just say that Morgan did not enjoy the Pooch Paddle one bit. She pretty much hated her life the whole time we were there.
"I can't believe you made me do this."

We got her swimming for a little bit after we kind of waded her out into the middle of the pool, but the overall consensus was that she hated every second of it.
Trying to get her to go a little deeper.
She hasn't acknowledged us the rest of the night. I think she's holding a grudge.

In the mean time, I'm going to try to get healthy and hopefully does the same. I hope no one else is suffering from any late summer sicknesses. They're the worst!

Sunday, September 1, 2013

I hope you all are having a great Labor Day Weekend!

Events wise, mine is great. However, Eric and I have experienced one of the many joys of cohabitation for the first time. I'm surprised it has taken almost 5 months, but for the first time, we have passed a sickness between the two of us. We're both pretty healthy, but we both have these terrible late summer colds. And I mean terrible. When you get some rest, it's supposed to make you feel better. So far, every time I have slept, I have felt worse. Hopefully we can both kick this illness fast! We have a busy September ahead of us!

We've had a pretty good weekend so far. We spent Saturday cooking lots of food for some friends that were coming over to watch the Husker game.  Eric bought a smoker this week, so far we've had two meals with smoked meat. We had pork loin on Friday and ribs for the game on Saturday. The ribs were soooooooo good!
Try not to drool over these!

Today, we went up to Yankton where Eric's parents keep their camper up at a campsite on the river. It was pretty fun, but we both felt so miserable that we left early and came home and took a nap. On the way home we stopped in Vermillion at Mister Smith's which is a sandwich shop that is actually inside of a hardware store. They have the best baguettes for their sandwiches, but when I went to order, they were out! Eric got the last one! I was so upset, but my sandwich was still good. Now we're just hanging out and probably going to go to bed early!

I'm so glad to have another whole day off! Hope you all enjoy the rest of your weekend!
