Thanks!

Instead of the usual So What Wednesday I'm going to take a little time to let you know some things I'm thankful for. I know everyone is thankful for their family, friends, etc. but this is a list of not so typical things I'm thankful for.

1. I'm thankful that I work in a hotel. Hotels have a lot of furniture. Do you know what hotels do with their old furniture when they get new stuff? They sell it. To their employees. For cheap. And it's some pretty cool stuff. This chair will soon be gracing our apartment with it's presence. I've always wanted a cool accent chair, and now I have one. All because I work in a hotel.

2. I'm thankful for Morgi the Corgi. My life would be waaaay more boring if she weren't around to make me laugh. Right now, it's very static-y in our apartment, and I'm pretty sure it's Morgan's fault because she just scoots around on the carpet all day. Every time one of us touches her we get shocked. It makes for some good laughs.

Yeah. This happened

3. I'm thankful that I live in an apartment. When shit breaks, you don't have to pay for it to get fixed. A friendly handyman comes and fixes it. Especially when your kitchen pipes are overflowing everywhere two days before you host Thanksgiving.

4. I'm thankful that I have an easy going personality. If I didn't, the above item would stress me the eff out.

5. I'm thankful that my boyfriend has an easy going personality as well and when said pipes are leaking and overflowing and making a damn mess while we're trying to make dinner he goes along with me when I say, "Fuck it, we're ordering pizza."

What are you guys thankful for? Any non-traditional items? Because let's be real.... everyone should be thankful for their friends and family. It's the little things that get overlooked.

Santa Claus is Coming to Town

Last night Eric and I recreated our first date. Last year, I somehow talked him in to going to the holiday lighted parade as our first date. I don't know why he ever agreed to it, but he did! He was annoyed (secretly excited) that I was making him go again this year.

The hotel that I work at has an awesome restaurant so we took advantage of my employee discount and had dinner there before the parade and ordered a $50 (!) appetizer sampler with steak tips, coconut shrimp, calamari, onion rings and lobster nachos (!). (Thank God for employee discounts!) Every time we eat there, we end up ordering the same thing because we like to have a few bites of every thing.

After dinner, we bundled up and took on downtown Sioux City.

The lighted parade leaves a lot to be desired, the best float by far was by the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, which makes sense, they're electrical workers. I'm sure they can string together Christmas lights like it's no big thing.

And then there is of course, the finale of the parade, the big man himself.
Santa!!! I know him!!
It seems like a ridiculous tradition, but it is just that, a tradition. One that I am sure we will continue year after year. What are some of your guys' favorite holiday traditions?

I Came In Like A Wrecking Ball............

Disclaimer: The title of today’s post really has nothing to do with the post itself, it’s just been stuck in my head for about three damn days.

Today I’ll be touching on a highly debated topic: Leggings worn as pants.

Now let me tell you this up front, I am all for leggings. They are quite possibly the most comfortable article of clothing. I love wearing them around the house on the weekends, wearing them to bed, and maaaybe the occasional trip to Wal-Mart. I very rarely actually wear them as pants outside of my home.

I’ll tell you one thing I don’t do… I definitely don’t wear them as pants to work. Sure, I wear them under dresses in the fall and winter and I wear them under longer tunic type shirts, but I never wear them as a substitute for pants.

If you’re wearing them (especially to work where we dress up nicely, ex: my boss wears a suit and tie every day) your shirt/top/dress should at least cover your butt. I don’t want to see your ass in your tight, clingy leggings. (One of my coworkers apparently did not get this memo.) In my opinion, it looks terrible. It looks like you are wearing workout pants with a nice sweater. It also makes you look like you are 15 and going shopping with your friends. Just throw in some UGG boots and you’ll be set.

So what should you all take away from this rant? Leggings are NOT a substitute for actual pants. Especially in your formal work environment.

Now excuse me while I step down from my soapbox.

TGIFF

Thank God it's 'effin Friday!

Jeesh. I don't really have anything to high-five about this week. I was sick and it just plain sucked. So today will be a list (my favorite) of things you might not know about me.

1. My real name is Katelyn. No one ever calls me that, except for my mom when I'm in trouble and one friend from college that I think does it just to annoy me.

2. I used to decorate cakes for a living. I loved it and miss doing it, but my job now rocks. Sometimes I decorate cakes and cupcakes a little bit for friends and family still.
My wedding cake will look like this some day.

My favorite cake I ever decorated!

3. I love dogs more than any person should. At one point in my life I lived with 3 guys and 10 dogs. I guess you could call me a crazy dog lady. I can't go to the Humane Society or the pound or anything because I will take at least one dog home.

4. I coach High School Girls Tennis for a Catholic school here in town. I love it more than anything. I wish it could be my full time job, but sadly, it barely pays. (And a little shout out... their football team just won the state championship last night! PRIDE!)

My Crazy, Awesome, Fun-Loving Tennis Team! (and yes, that is Morgan in the back row.)
5. I have naturally curly hair. No one knows this because I straighten it every single day. I just don't look good with curly hair, and it's not the nice naturally curly hair that you see in pictures all the time. It's nuts.

I hope your week was better than mine. I'm really looking forward to the next week/thanksgiving/next weekend. I'm ready for a couple days off and time to recover. Have a great weekend!!

So What?!

You guys.... could this week go any slower? I'm so ready for a 4 day weekend next weekend. I know it's Wednesday and the week is half over already, but come on... I need a solid couple of days to rest.

So what if I haven't gone to the gym this week. I'm sick and can't breath when I'm just sitting, let alone when I'm actually trying to work out.

So what if I took a two hour nap on the couch at 6:30 last night and then couldn't fall back asleep when I actually went to bed. That two hour nap was glorious. This sickness is seriously kicking my ass.

So what if I had a fun size Twix candy bar for breakfast the day after a dentist appointment. Twix are my favorite and it was delicious and the cavities are already there so.....

So what if I didn't get anything done at work yesterday. I had to leave early for my dentist appointment and I spent the whole day stressing out about it anyway.

So what if I don't feel like doing anything today at work either. I'm still very much needing a day off, but that won't come until next week. So I guess I'll just do all my easy work today...

I hope your guys' week is going better than mine is. I'm ready to kick this sickness to the curb and get back into a good routine. Hopefully I'm feeling better in the next couple of days and can actually get some shit done. Also, stay tuned for a preview of our Christmas card photos :)

History in the Making

One year ago today I went on a first date. Little did I know that my life would be different from that moment on....

Who would have thought in that year that we would be living together and talking about plans for the future. I don’t know why our relationship works, it just does. It just clicks. I couldn’t be happier about meeting him, falling in love and planning our life together.
A few pictures to document our year. From sporting events, to concerts, to road trips and yes, once upon a time I even drug Eric to go see Pauly Shore. (Weezing the juice.)
All in all, the whole year has been pretty damn great!

I Want Crazy

This weekend we went to yet another concert. Surprise Surprise.

I also got my ears pierced..... from the screams of teenage girls at said concert.

If you haven't guessed by now, we went to see Hunter Hayes this weekend. And we had meet and greet passes! I was kind of excited for the concert, but not as excited as all those girls! The audience was easily 95% female. The few men that were in attendance were dads and boyfriends who got drug along to the show. Oh, and one very creepy guy that sat in front of us by himself and knew every word to every song and danced along.
Eric was soooo excited :)
P.s. Check out that beard :)
The concert itself was pretty good. I only knew about 5 of his songs but it was fun to hear and dance along to the rest. And let me tell you, Hunter Hayes is quite the musician. He played at least ten different instruments during the show.
We had pretty good seats too!
There were confetti cannons at the end as well, because why wouldn't Hunter Hayes have a confetti cannon with a couple thousand screaming girls.
Right in the thick of all the confetti.
It was by far the loudest concert I've ever been to. I still have a headache/earache! But the meet and greet was definitely worth it. He is such a nice fella. He takes time to talk to everyone that he meets. We actually got to have a conversation with him. He signed our ticket for us and snapped a photo and we were on our way!
He's a very tiny man.
I wouldn't say that I need to go see him again anytime soon, but I'm excited to see how his career will develop. I'm sure he'll be around awhile. So, unless you have a pre-teen/teenage daughter at home, I would put off seeing Hunter Hayes for awhile.

Let's Get a Little Mud on the Tires

Guys, I am dragging butt today. Why you might ask? Well, I spent my evening with Brad Paisley!
As I’m sure you know by now, I’m a concert junkie. I love them, whether I’m in the front row having a blast or in the last row just taking in the show. I can’t get enough of them!

My all time favorite song.
Eric stumbled on 3 tickets to the show on one of those Facebook swap sites where you can buy and sell stuff and he asked me one night, “Do you think you can find someone to go see Brad Paisley with us? I’m going to buy tickets.” So I called up my friend/coworker and asked her if she wanted to go.
So Thursday finally rolls around and we all pack up after work and head off to see my man Brad.
There is one thing about Brad Paisley concerts. The special effects, video and light shows are AWESOME. It’s like watching a movie behind him the whole time. When he sings Remind Me, his duet with Carrie Underwood, he has a hologram of Carrie that looks soooo real. At one point, there was even a Brad Paisley mascot running around on stage. You guys, he even has his own app that goes along with his concert!

This was us dancing to a Brad Paisley
 song at his wedding.
And yes, that is a camouflage vest and tie.
Now I want to tell you a little bit about my history with Brad Paisley. This is the 3rd time I’ve seen him now, mainly because he is my ALL TIME favorite. His songs bring back so many memories for me. Mud on the Tires in particular. In high school, my best friend drove this shitty old Blazer. We used to just drive around all night and find new places to get a little Mud on the Tires. We would listen to the song on repeat all night long and just belt it out the whole time. It’s one of those songs that you know will always hold a special place in your heart and will always trigger memories like that.

Flashback Friday! This is actually one of the better pictures
of us through the years. No braces, no bad haircuts, no
weird photo bombs, etc.

Back to the concert after a short trip down memory lane… halfway through the opener, Danielle Bradbery, I noticed that there was a smaller stage about 5 feet from us. Brad made his way over there during one song and sang a few songs and I was right there! I was so close to him!

My man, Brad! That's how close I was to him!

His ending of the show was so cool, but I don’t want to spoil it for any of you who might be seeing him in the future. It was just amazing what all his special effects can do! So, all in all, I would definitely recommend going to see Brad Paisley. He puts on quite the show.

Even though I’m exhausted today, it was definitely worth it!

Stay tuned, I’m going to see Hunter Hayes tomorrow, plus I get to meet him!

Also, don’t forget to vote in my poll about what we should wear for our Christmas card photos!
So far it’s a tie between Santa Hats and a cute outfit that I pick out J

I'm a Barbie Girl

Happy Hump Day everyone! It's that time of week again, time for a So What Wednesday!

1. I'm wearing one of my favorite dresses today. It's navy blue and has fuchsia birds on it. Because, this work stuff is for the birds.

2. One of my (male) coworkers told me today that my shoes looked like Barbie shoes. So what, they're cute, even if you think they look like Barbie shoes.

3. I may or may not be going to 2 concerts this week. (I am). Brad Paisley tomorrow and Hunter Hayes (with a meet and greet!) on Saturday.

4. Keep an eye out for the first ever Eric, Kate and Morgan Christmas card. The Siouxland Humane Society is doing a fundraiser where you can go and get your pictures professionally taken with a winter backdrop and use them however you want. So if you'd love to receive one of the most amazing "family's" Christmas cards, let me know your address! The verdict is still out on what we're going to wear for these photos. Take my little poll over there --------------------------> and you might just have an input in what we wear!

5. Did I mention I get to meet Hunter Hayes this weekend? We have to miss out on the sold out University of South Dakota vs. South Dakota State football game, but let's be real, we can go to the game next year!

I hope you're all having a fabulous week so far! Keep it up! We're almost to the weekend!

Lemonade Mouth

There is no flavor I love more than Lemon. Lemonheads, lemon cake, vodka lemonades. So when I stumbled on this recipe on Pinterest, I knew I had to try it. Most of the time on Pinterest, I pin a bunch of stuff and never do anything about. (Hello wine bottle nightlight.) We've all been there. Occasionally I try some recipes, and this one seemed pretty simple. Hell, it uses box cake mix. So I headed off to the store. Now let me just forewarn you, these cookies are kind of time consuming, but I skipped the gym today, so I had plenty of time.

I just followed the recipe as stated, except I substituted 1/2 a stick of butter in each cake mix instead of the oil. Because, butter. (Nod to Paula Dean.)

Also, this recipe gave me an excuse to use this bad boy! Thanks Momma Deb.

Obviously it did an awesome job, it's a Kitchen Aid, it's not going to suck! Also, notice that it matches my Keurig :)

After it's all mixed up, you take a small scoop of each flavor, roll them into a ball, roll in powdered sugar, and smush them down a bit.

Bake them for about ten minutes. Then you make the glaze as the recipe says. I actually used lemon juice instead of milk so it was a little more lemon-y. You know I love lemons :)

Next step: Enjoy! They get this crackle-y texture on top and the glaze really tops it off. My coworkers are definitely going to love me at work today! Morgan even got in on the action a little bit. She mainly just waits for me to drop stuff on the floor. :)

I hope you all have a great day! If you have time, might I suggest making some Strawberry Lemonade cookies!

Lovin' Him was Red.

Today I’m going to share my thoughts on a highly debated subject. Taylor Swift.
It seems that people either love her, or hate her. I, myself, am on the loving side of this heated debate. I can’t get enough of her. I love her songs, I love her music videos, I love her hopping from boyfriend to boyfriend, I love her. And let’s be real, girl knows what she’s doing.  Let’s face it, she hasn’t won 7 Grammy’s, 11 CMA Awards and various others for nothin’! I think people just love to hate on her. I think they’re all a little bit jealous of her success.

So I have compiled a list of the various reason why I think Taylor Swift rocks. If you don’t agree with me, deal with it!

Girl can write songs.
Seriously, check out some of her lyrics sometime. No I’m not talking about “We are never ever ever, getting back together.” I’m talking "In your life you'll do things greater than dating the boy of the football team / But I didn't know it at fifteen." Now, on the outside, this may not be the most profound lyric, but imagine if you were a pre-teen/teenage girl listening to this. That could have a pretty serious impact. Which brings me to my next point….

She’s quite the role model.
Seriously, of all the female celebrities in the media right now, which one would you want your daughter to look up to? Kim Kardashian? No. Miley Cyrus? Hell No. Aside from her dating history (girl just wants to be in love), she’s about as squeaky clean as you can get. I don’t know if I’ve told you guys this before, but I have a Little Sister. Not a real little sister, but one through Big Brothers Big Sisters. I’ve been matched with her going on our 4th year now and she looooooves Taylor Swift. I’m so glad that she has a role model like her to look up to.

She’s always grateful.
I know everyone always makes cracks about her surprise face when she wins awards, but come on, she’s a 23 year old girl, what do you expect? In her acceptance speeches she is always very appreciative of her family, record label, etc., and her fans, even when Kanye West tries to be a douche. When you get the chance, what her Journey to Fearless documentary and see the way she treats some of her fans. It’s amazing. Speaking of her fans…

Girl can put on a show.
I got the opportunity to see Taylor perform about six years ago before she really started to make it big. The concert was amazing! I was in the nosebleeds, and still stood up and danced by butt off for the whole concert. It was so much fun, and this was before she got huge. I can’t even imagine what one of her shows is like now. I’d be willing to navigate the crowd of screaming preteen girls to see her again. Unfortunately, she is so huge now; I’d have to travel farther than 5 miles away to see her. She hasn’t won Entertainer of the Year for nothing!

So there you have it. A few of the reasons why I think Taylor Swift is the bomb.com. Oh, you don’t think she deserves any awards and she’s a terrible singer. Get back to me when you’re 23 and have 7 Grammy’s and pretty much kick ass at life.
Deal with It. Source: @ChloeFrmVinee

So What!

Happy Wednesday everyone!! Is this week just dragging on or what?! Jeesh! I've about had it up to here with this week!

So it's time to just say So what!

1. I might have eaten an entire Totino's Party Pizza for supper last night. (I did.) So what, it was delicious. I might eat another one tonight. (Clearly Eric is out of town and I don't have to feed him.)

2. I went on a bit of a shopping spree yesterday. At WalMart! I finally found the perfect mustard yellow cardigan. I've been looking for one for a decade. I also found a super cute dress to wear with leggings for only $7!

3. Speaking of leggings and WalMart... I'm straight up obsessed with the WalMart brand of leggings. They're just good ol' cotton leggings. They're so comfortable and warm! They're not light tights where they cut your circulation off either. I might have them in 5 different colors!

4. Since Eric is out of town, I had to run home on my lunch break to let Morgan out. I felt really bad for her yesterday because she is just home by herself all day so I turned on Animal Planet so she would have something to watch while I was gone. I think she enjoyed it. Especially on our new hi-def giant TV!

5. It's November. Which means No Shave November. My favorite time of year! I just love beards and facial hair. I'm happy to say that Eric is participating in the festivities. To make things better, he looks like a stone cold fox with his stubble right now. (He was a babe before, but now he's even more of a babe!)

I hope your guys' week is going faster than mine is. I'm kind of over work right now. I'm in desperate need of a day off. Like just a random Tuesday. I just want a day where I can lounge around and watch bad daytime TV. But enjoy the rest of the week and enjoy the beards your boyfriends/fiances/husbands/life parters/significant others are growing this month!

Dear John

Remember last week when I told you that I booked a celebrity to come stay at our hotel? Well, I can finally tell you who it is. Not because they stayed and checked out already, but because the entire show got cancelled. And I'm ticked. He ended up cancelling two shows on his tour, I'm assuming, because no one was buying any tickets because it was so expensive.

I know you're all dying to know who it was. It was John Mayer. I don't care if he's a womanizer and has dated every celeb in this universe (Taylor Swift, Jen Aniston, Katy Perry, etc.) I love him. Love him and love his music.
I was not only excited at possibly getting the chance to meet him at my hotel, I was on my way to getting tickets to the show as well. Needless to say I'm a little bummed. Phillip Phillips was opening up for him too. So it was bound to be a pretty good show.

So Dear John, please reschedule your show in Sioux City. That'd be great! Feel free to bring Katy Perry Along. Sincerely, Kate the Great.

What are some concerts you wish you would have been able to go to? I also recently missed out on Keith Urban :(

Also, how cool is it that celebrities stay at my hotel?

This is Halloween.

And just like that, it was November. And I shed a single tear.

I am not mentally or physically prepared for winter/holiday season to be here. So I'm going to cling onto Halloween/Fall for awhile. I told you guys yesterday about my love of Halloween and all my favorite costumes. So without further ado...... here's my recap on the Great Holiday this year!

Talked Eric into carving a pumpkin this year. He even dug all the guts out for me. I'm obviously not going to do that. And yes, mom, those are Pampered Chef items we used to carve our pumpkin. We also roasted the seeds which lets be real, is the only reason I like to carve pumpkins.

Morgan even got in on the pumpkin carving action. I think she may have tried to eat it.

My coworkers and I that dressed up. Danny & Sandy, my boss the Grimm Reaper, Phil Robertson, Raphael and a Cheerleader. I've told you tons of times how awesome my coworkers are. Here is more proof.

My dear friend/coworker Catherine. Ninja Turtles and Duck Dynasty.

And presenting..... Captain Morgan. I'm not sure if she enjoyed her costume at all. She mainly just wanted to eat it.
So, in a nutshell, pumpkins are carved for their seeds, my coworkers do Halloween right, and Morgan just wanted to eat Halloween. How was your Halloween? Was it everything you dreamed? I saw some pretty awesome costumes out in blog-land including Desiree and her family over at Macke Monologues. Go check out the adorable-ness.
